The International Conference on Physical Computing (ICOPC) is a broader initiative aimed at advancing the field of physical computing by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and visibility across disciplines. Rather than being a single recurring conference, ICOPC serves as an umbrella platform that supports a variety of event formats, such as workshops, seminars, and symposia, dedicated to exploring new paradigms in computing based on physical systems.
This year's event, the 1st Workshop on Photonic Computing and Machine Learning, is the inaugural workshop organized within the framework of the International School of Physical Computing at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice, Sicily.
While ICOPC provides thematic continuity and a long-term vision, the collaboration with the International School of Physical Computing offers a more participative and flexible format, emphasizing dialogue, interaction, and hands-on scientific exchange. The workshop format allows for deeper engagement, particularly among early-career researchers, and encourages active contribution through short talks, posters, and focused discussions.
